Hi folks,

I had an eye exam with contact lens fitting on Friday at Kaiser
Permanente and was issued two prescriptions -- one for the contacts
and another for eyeglasses. The eyeglasses prescription only lists
two items:

OD: -5.50-sph
OS: -5.50-sph

It includes "wear type" of Full-Time, "lens design" of Single Vision,
and "material/coating" of Plastic and Anti-Reflective. But absolutely
no information about cylinder, axis, PD or other measurements (of
course, the PD not being present was unsurprising). Understandably,
this is a major problem when trying to shop for glasses online.

I have to go back to get my eyes dilated for a visual field test, at
which time I will most definitely firmly request my full detailed
prescription, but it's troublesome to me that they would issue this
half-a**ed excuse for a prescription. Since my (new) doctor had me
speak with both the contact lens specialist and the optician about
buying goods there, I am suspicious that they are stonewalling and
trying to force me into buying glasses from their stock rather than
other vendors by withholding information.

Brick-and-mortar vendors have pocketed thousands and thousands of
dollars from my family over the past decades, so I have no compunction
about refusing to line their pockets any further, especially when the
eyeglasses would be for intermittent/nighttime use anyway. If they
want to get pissy about online eyeglass shops stealing all their
business, perhaps they'd also better take a look at the contact lens
industry as I imagine they've delivered a bit of a wallop as well.

Anyway, I searched the discussions and posts but did not see any other
entries about this issue, so I thought I'd toss it out there as a
potential abuse. Rest assured I will be returning to them with FCC
paperwork in hand if they give me any problems!
