I believe it's less a matter of can't, and more a matter of won't. The US
companies WON'T mix 'n match lenses.
There's no technological reason why any lens shape shouldn't be used with a
rimless frame, since the attachment is just at some small holes on the
sides. It boils down to a willingness to make the glasses vs a
technological capacity to produce them.
