Dear Glassy Eye Forum members,
I discovered this forum within the last week whilst researching my
options for Distance Prescription
Sunglasses and have found it most useful.
My optician, here in Cusco, won't be easily contactable this week. So,
I am hoping there are some opticians and/or optometrists or other
knowledgable people on this forum with whom I can discuss my most
recent observation regarding the new Computer glasses I received 2
weeks ago before I make contact again with my local optician.
Firstly, some history about my vision problems. I was born with a lazy
left eye which also has an astigmatism. Below are my current
prescriptions. If you copy them into Notepad or a Word processor with
a mono-spaced font, everything should line-up.
Distance
--------
Sphere Cylinder Axis Interpupillary Distance
------ -------- ---- -----------------------
Right - 1.25 66
Left + 0.75 -1.25 28°
Computer
--------
Sphere Cylinder Axis Interpupillary Distance
------ -------- ---- -----------------------
Right - 0.25 64
Left + 1.75 -1.25 28°
I have been programming for 20+ years but haven't worn glasses since
1977 (for a short while and before that between 1965 up to about 1972)
until within the last 2 years and hence my right eye is extremely
strained and tired as it is the dominant eye. For example, I can't see
people's faces clearly across the street. However, if the Left eye is
measured separately to the Right eye and the measurement is applied
accordingly to my prescription then my vision gets confused because
the Right eye has been acustomed so long to being the dominant eye.
Well then, back to the new glasses. At first I thought they were
helping but after 2 to 3 days my eyes were becoming very stressed
again. I visited the optician again last Friday and he confirmed the
lenses matched the prescription.
One idea that I haven't been able to test yet is the lack of Anti-
reflective coating on these lenses.
The optician could not recommend the AR coatings used in Peru because
they begin to deteriorate in a short period of time. I have friends,
in Australia, in the process of acquiring some CR-39 glasses with AR
coating for me but it will be a few weeks before they arrive.
The observation I made 2 nights ago was that if I lowered the glasses
down my nose (not so comfortable), which means I am looking through
the top parts of the lens and not the middle, is that my eyes were
less stressed. I would prefer to have the nose rests positioned at the
top of the nose.
Could this observation have something to do with any or all of the
following.
Vertex distance.
Pantoscopic tilt.
POW (Position-of-Wear).
Naturally, I am wondering how this will affect my requirements for
glasses for my Distance prescription.
Thank you,
Michael Holberton
