Just out of interest I thought I'd try irssi. Never used it before. My
workstation is running Debian 10.
I installed irssi with:
$ sudo apt install irssi
Then invoked it and connected to A&A's server with:
/connect -tls irc.aachat.net
and got straight in there (except it warned me that my nick was owned by
someone else).
Do you have the following?
