I'm not so sure. To the extent that we make public statements, we invite 
  discussion of our attitudes. I'm quite comfortable defending what I've 
said, not that I expect my views to be considered particularly worthy of 
extended debate. If <insert name of famous person> participated here, I 
don't think that would make their statements off-limits for discussion. 
I didn't reply to A McD because there didn't seem to be anything 
specific to reply to.
