While I applaud their intent and mission, I cannot help but feel that
they display a lamentable form of localism in their thinking. This
approach is needed worldwide, and scientists and engineers, of all
people, should be able to look beyond national boundaries at the unity
of our species and planet.
Perhaps sister organisations should be encouraged in Europe, Africa and
Asia. (Although I very much doubt that the 'America' they refer to
includes the whole of North America, let alone South America, so one
for the 'Real America' might be called for.)
