A few things here at the Fall AGU meeting may be of interest.

Naomi Oreskes, author of the Science piece reviewing over 900 abstracts
on global warming, gave an interesting talk about disinformation in the
public debate over climate change. She's currently documenting the work
of Frederick Seitz (he of the infamous "Oregon Petition"). Oreskes
considers him one of the central figures -- perhaps even the central
figure -- in the disinformation campaign.

Al Gore spoke at midday today. By the time I arrived the fire marshal
said no more could be admitted to the lecture hall. An overflow room
was available but I decided not to attend. Reports are that Gore gave a
very good talk; he has loosened up quite a bit since the 2000
presidential campaign.

S. Fred Singer had a poster in one of this afternoon's poster sessions.
Alas, I was unable to meet with the gentleman to discuss his
groundbreaking research. A friend who shall remain nameless had an
entertaining chat with Dr. Singer about the poster (all the more so
since S. Fred appeared not to realize that he was being led down the
garden path).

Gavin Schmidt discusses RealClimate tomorrow. Unfortunately I have to go
home and grade exams, so someone else will need to report on that one.
