Is there any truth to the persistent rumor that Carbon fuel industry hired Erich von Daniken, the occultist and ancient astronauts author, to write a global warming denialist piece? The rumor says that at least one piece was published in Germany a few years ago, but it/they has/have yet to be translated into, and published in, English.
I've heard this rumor verbally at least three times in the last couple of weeks, but my Internet searches do not find any German article(s) by von Daniken on global warming, (globales wärmen, klimaänderung). What I don't know is how much of German tabloid 'literature' makes it onto Internet pages. The article(s) could be there, just not on the net. I must admit, this rumor is appealing. If the industry wants to promote pseudo science, then why not hire a well-known best-selling pseudo-scientific crank?
