As usual, Singer looks only at the MSU T2LT product. That product
may well be in error, as the processing exaggerates the impact of the
surface on the final result. The team at RSS has chosen to exclude
any results for the Southern Hemisphere poleward of 70S, whereas the
UAH product still shows results at these latitudes. The RSS team
states that they exclude this data because of the impacts of high
elevations and also exclude results from high mountains in the
Himalayas and the Andes. As I suggested in a paper published in the
GRL in 2003, there may well be a secondary impact from sea-ice on the
T2LT. Furthermore, the TLT algorithm may be optimized for temperate
regions, as it appears that Spencer and Christy derived it assuming a
Standard Atmosphere lapse rate profile. I would not be surprised if
it were found that the resulting algorithm is not appropriate over the
polar regions.
Singer has recently published a book “Unstoppable Global Warming”,
which
might be called the Denialist Bible. I don’t plain to buy one, as
they want $25 for the paperback. He did give a short talk about the
book at a meeting sponsored by the Hudson Institute on 9 November
2006:

Here’s a link to one of Singer’s recent papers which led to the book:
