R&M got a chemistry prize and IPCC/Gore got a peace prize.
I heard a rumor when I was a meteorology student. When the prize was
founded, the world's great meteorologists were Norwegian. (Vilhelm
Bjerknes is widely considered the founder of the science.) According
to the rumor the Swedes were sufficiently anti-Norwegian that Nobel
explicitly excluded meteorology as an appropriate subject for the
physics prize.
