I am personally of the opinion that the automotive industry would be 
better off implementing the technology available at:
http://www.afstrinity.com/
and converting the long-haul trucks to run on compressed natural gas 
(CNG).  I know that it is a version of the PickensPlan but it would 
provide mostly plug-in support for most commuters who travel short 
distances in their cars.
