This is why I ask what people call things. > the entire Quatenary is an ice age ...
Ok, fair enough, and a good example: I ask what words people are using because often I don't know whether there are distinctions I'm missing. I asked if "climate sensitivity" is term used for temperature change when CO2 is decreasing; I know it's usually defined in terms of doubling of CO2, our present situation. The answer seems to be "yes." Then I made the mistake of mentioning "ice age" to refer to the up and down temperature variations more properly distinugished as David points out. To wring a bit of a lesson for myself out of the digression, this was an example of how easy it is to assume people know what I'm talking about when I use words I hear all the time. I said 'ice age' -- I meant 'the last time it got really really cold for a long time and CO2 decreased along with temperature as shown in the chart' though. I'm in large, if not good, company in my sloppy use of 'ice age' for 'last big cold'-- http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Aice+age http://www.google.com/search?q=define%3Apleistocene I'll be more careful. Thanks David, I needed to be educated on these terms. ______________________ "While in the midst of bowing to enthusiastic applause, an audience member from the balcony yelled, “Come, come, Shaw, you know all this stuff is balderdash.” Bernard Shaw looked towards the person and in a friendly voice exclaimed, “I quite agree with you, my friend, but who are you and I against so many?” -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Global Change ("globalchange") newsgroup.
