...gettext is de-facto standard for localization, i think that is wrong
to consider that an ``optional'...
Also: AFAI've understood GLPI developers will change to gettext, but it
is not a primary goal: so we can expect to pass one year before glpi go
to gettext, and in one year i hope that gettext in php will not be a
trouble anuymore...

...there are tons of tools out there that can be used to translate .po
files, all interoperable, some of the community-minded (as rosetta).
