The idea of using MySQL as a frontend and Postgres for data mining is very interesting, in our case the big problem is our customer wants big loads of data stored and accessed and we see it more suitable for Postgres than MySQL linked to the fact we'd rather to use PostGIS for spatial data. About suitability... well i'm with you MySQL is faster and more suitable for small designs, but I think there is needed more code in PHP side when working with MySQL than when working with PostgreSQL this in a big application can be a big drawback, not talking about advanced features but anyway having a multidatabase core is always a plus IMHO. regards |
