Sorry for this late answer but we were in Paris for 4 days at Solutions
LINUX.

Ahem, i was a but afraid that no one response to this wonderfoul offer
came... ;)))

Our contribution offer is back to our customer, as soon as they give us green light we will start planning works.

   1. PostgreSQL support

Humm, this is not a minor feature. I think you could read a lot of
flameware about this problem in the archive of this mailing list.

I'm not a developer nor a big contributor to GLPI, and i was one of the
flamers on this subject in the past, but really now i'm going back to
my foot...

Apart that MySQL 'suit better' around PHP, the management cost of an
MySQL installation are so little, counting also knowledge need, that
sometime the work to make an appalication portable it is not even
comparable.

I'm still a fan of Postgres (that use for all the rest, apart GLPI ;),
and still i think that writing up a webapp with multi-db support in
mind are better, but i'm not so 'religious' about that. ;)

If you need postgres support to postprocess tracking data with some
other financial/management software, consider also doing some script
that simply dump the mysql database in a postgres one at a regular
basis, this is, apart some minor drawbacks, completely doable and very
simple.

The idea of using MySQL as a frontend and Postgres for data mining is very interesting, in our case the big problem is our customer wants big loads of data stored and accessed and we see it more suitable for Postgres than MySQL linked to the fact we'd rather to use PostGIS for spatial data.

About suitability... well i'm with you MySQL is faster and more suitable for small designs, but I think there is needed more code in PHP side when working with MySQL than when working with PostgreSQL this in a big application can be a big drawback, not talking about advanced features but anyway having a multidatabase core is always a plus IMHO.
