----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any advice in this forum.]---- Thanks to all who responded to my message on Friday. I had to go out of town this weekend, and of course could not get back to my baby until today. So I fire her up today and despite temps. of near 70, she still didn't act right. How ever this time, when I did the mag check I got 300-350 drop on one side (as opposed to 50 on the other side). I did not have this much of a drop when I had my problem on Friday. (see my original post below). But I could still only get about 2000 RPM at full throttle (normally get about 2400-2475). Would a bad mag drop the RPM this much by itself, or is something like the timing of the mag? I wouldn't think that fouled plugs would drop it this low, or make it run this rough on the left mag. Am I on the right track, with the mag or its timing? Or am I missing any possibilities? Why would I got much more of a mag drop today as opposed to three days ago when I had my original problem (just progressively worsening?). How much of a deal is it to adjust the timing on a mag? Again, thanks to all who have responded. I greatly appreciate the input (and the learning curve I'm on!) . Ryan Wubben Chapel Hill, NC Forney F-1 N3000G (original post below) Greetings all, I am the owner of a '59 Forney with a C-90. Bought it in late October. Today while I was preparing to fly I noticed a bit of an odd vibration at low RPM. I let it warm up, did my mag checks which were pretty normal (about 75-100 on one side, about 50 on the other) and took the active. After applying full power, I glanced down at the gauges. Oil pressure at about 40 (normal) and temp coming up (also normal); but I was developing only about 2000 RPM (2475 is the max). I aborted. Went back to my tie down, shut down. Checked the gas again, no water. Checked under the cowl, nothing unusual. Fired up again, and still only 2000. Tried leaning it out (thinking maybe there was carbon on the plugs or they were fouled). No luck. Any thoughts or ideas. The compression on the cylinders was in the high 70's when I bought it. There has been a little higher oil consumption than I like (about a quart every 5 or 7 hours). And a corollary, any one know of a mechanic that is in central North Carolina that will come to Chapel Hill? This airport is owned by the University and there is no FBO here (just some University mechanics). Thanks for any ideas, Ryan Wubben Chapel Hill, NC N3000G
