First you should not be using 50W oil 'on a cold day.' If it is cold, you
should
be using 30 or 40W, depending upon how cold. If the temp is variable, then
multi-vis is most appropriate. The new Exxon Elite has impressive
anti-corrosive
properties.

It is likely that the oil temp blow off valve is a bit slow-acting.
Perhaps
caused
by the fact that your 50W oil has the consistency of chewing gum when it
is cold.

So first, change the oil. If that doesn't do it, then have your A&P
investigate
the oil pressure relief valve.

And use the right oil from now on!
