John,
You do not have a problem, what you stated is the way the engine works. I
o/h quite a few of the every year, it's
just normal for that engine. The only thing is the weight oil you are
using,
below I have cut and pasted right out of the TCDS for your engine.

Lubricating oil, ambient temperature
Oil Grade
Below 40°F.
SAE 20
Above 40°F.
SAE 40
NOTE 1.
Maximum permissible cylinder head, barrel and oil inlet temperatures are
as
follows (oil pressure limits 30 to 40 p.s.i.):

               Head Barrel Oil Inlet
C75 Series 550°F. 300°F. 225°F.
C85 Series 540°F. 300°F. 225°F.

Hope this helps to ease you thoughts. The high pressure at start-up is
normal

| John,
| That sounds good to me. Those engines are supposed to operate on 30 to
40
| psi after they are warmed up.
| Your relief valve is supposed to be set for that 30/40 range. It is
normal
| for it to go high at first starting.

| | HOPE YOU CAN HELP. I HAVE A C85 COMPLETE OVERHAUL 30 HOURS AGO. I AM
| | USING 50W OIL. ON A COLD DAY, I START THE ENGINE AND THE PRESSURE
| | EXCEEDS 90 POUNDS FOR APPROXIMATELY 30-45 SECONDS. THEN IT SLOWLY
DROPS
| | DOWN TO 35-40 POUNDS AND STAYS THERE THE ENTIRE FLIGHT. DOES ANYONE
| | KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE AND HOW I MIGHT CORRECT IT? THANK YOU
| | VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
