----[Please read http://ercoupers.com/disclaimer.htm before following any
advice in this forum.]----

A day or so ago, during a discussion with
some other pilots and mechanics,
I was answering some questions about how
the Ercoupe differed from other aircraft.

The line mechanic butted in with a statement about how:

"They say an Ercoupe is spinproof, but as soon as you get
the nose up, the CG shifts aft and your dead--can't recover!"

This from an experienced A & P who went through training
in aerodynamics. !!!

Rather than argue with this chap who has a strong opinion
about everything and,in addition, knows everything, I allowed him
to return to his duties and proceeded to explain how he was wrong.
Some of the people present have had me demonstrate the Coupe to
them so they could back me up. He also weighs 300# + so I couldn't
offer him a ride to prove things.

One gets tired of defending a snappy little airplane to naysayers
who don't have the slightest clue of which way is up. Bah humbug

Cheers:
