Hi Larry,
John is right but has only told half of the story. The small Continental
will go to at least 2,500 hours with no problem the catch is you must fly
it at least twice every week for more than an hour and you must do the
2,500 hours in about four years. It goes with out saying that you must
change oil every 25 hours and keep the rest of the engine tuned up and
working right.
Now for the 30 year old overhaul on engines that sit most all winter
un-run
and I am amazed that any get past 500 hours. I have an engine with only
300
since factory re-manufactured and it does not look to bad but I would not
fly it until I have had it overhauled. It may not take a lot or it may be
pure junk but there is no good way to know until it is torn down and all
parts are tested.
These Continental engines are very strong and will give good service but
they want to be flown often and will not tolerate long periods of sitting.
That's my story and I am sticking to it.
Have a good day.
Vern

John, John.....When have you seen a Continental bottom end make it to 2500
hrs? I do agree with the 500 hr top, but the Continental that makes it
past
1500 hrs bmoh is the exception, not the rule.
