Years ago I asked Ron why his plane was registered as an experimental, and
if
I remember correctly, he didn't even know that it was registered as an
experimental. I think it was registered as an experimental back long ago
when someone had it fitted with a big fuel tank in the passenger's seat
location and was going to try to set some type of record with it. I think

the guy who was going to set the record was Max Conrad, but I may have the

name all wrong. There is a picture of Ron's airplane in the book "A Touch
of
Class", with the big fuel tank installed. I'm sure Ron could shed more
light
on all of this, but I don't think he's on the mailing list. I know he has

done 337's on all of his mods and improvements and had them approved by
the
FAA. I've talked to Ron a number of times on the phone, and he's done
lots
of neat things to his plane. From what I've heard, his Alon is one of the

very best. I think he spent about 10 years restoring it.

Good Flying,
