Well then. I wonder how much of what the Smithsonian told me I can trust. I had asked them if they had the YO-55 in their collection. (I had heard that they did.) The responded that they did have an Ercoupe, but that it wasn't the YO-55 (NC28655). And proceeded to give what info they had on the YO-55. They also mentioned teh posibility that the USAAC also evaluated another Ercoupe, NX-15692. But they never mentioned that they coupe they had was NX-15692. Seems they would have if this was, in fact, one of the planes the AAC looked at. The more I learn about this, the dumber I feel. (I heard that Dennis.) :-) Mike -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, April 29, 2002 2:53 PM To: Mike Dean Subject: Re: [COUPERS] USAAC Ercoupes N (X) 15692 is SN 1 and is in the Smithsonian...Mfg on Jan 19, 1940. See: Ercoupe, a Touch of Class, Page 48-53. picture is in Brians photo pages seen hanging from the ceiling in the Silver Hill facility. also see pictures of the original engine ERCO IL 116 inline 4 cyl , air coled inverted engine. It was certified, then Continental made the 65 HP available, and while certified in the Ercoupe, was never sold. I am convinced that is how the 415 became the 415 C ( for Continental).
