Okay, I'm not usually one to spontaneously endorse a product, but this is an exception. I just replaced an aging PS Engineering Aerocom II with the new Aerocom III. The III model has their new automatic squelch. The same as their PMA7000 audio panel. Near as I can tell, it uses DSP (digital signal processing) to figure out what is speech and what is background noise, and to do the right thing as a result. I'm here to tell you: it's everything they claim it is. I wanted something better for this Young Eagles season, because communication is sooooo important with the youngsters. So I picked up a youth-size headset and this new intercom. My god. What a difference. Just as advertised. No more clipped syllables. No more adjusting the squelch. Not even a knob to do same. Finally, I thought 'we'll see if they are as good as they say they are.' So I took the co-pilot's headset, which I usually unplug when solo because the mike goes 'open' and I tossed it into the baggage space. Usually, there, all the rattling and banging just comes through. That is, one long 'open squelch.' Not with the Aerocom III. Not a peep. And every time I said something, it just came over. I could whisper. It came over. I could shout. It came over. But the squelch NEVER opened on ambient noise. Canopy open, canopy closed. Never a glitch. Uncanny. This thing is smart. Best price I found was 151.55 at Aircraft Spruce. Worth every penny. Just an insanely good product.
