Hello Ed, All of what you said is true- you can do whatever the type certificate says. A C model can become a D under the type certificate, and that's it- a D cant become an E or G, etc. Once you do change a C to a D you do need a new airworthiness cert, because your old one is now incorrect, because is says that the aircraft model is a 415-C. Any FED that's worth his weight in government tax dollars would spot this on a ramp check- since your data plate now doesnt match your airworthiness cert-and any IA should spot this on the annual and get it taken care of for you. All you have to do is take the type cert, the log book and the old airworthiness cert down to the FISDO office and they will make a new one for you there. You will have to demonstrate to them that you have complied with all of the items on the type cert for the conversion- they might even want to come look at your plane.
