I'm big on small government :-) and free markets, but Greg's right on this
one.  At least with today's technology, ATC is necessarily a monopoloy.
It's not like I can call ATC-A for a clearance instead of ATC-B because
ATC-A always gives me quicker and cheaper service.  Also, take it from
someone who works for government, if ATC is to be contracted-out,
government
can and will screw this up too.  Why?  Because the government will write
the
contract and, as always, it will be a one-size-fits-all affair.  Wait
until
you get your bill for government contracted ATC service: $6,000 for 1
year's
ATC service @ $500 per month flat fee for all the IFR services your VFR
Coupe can use -- whether you want it or not.  (And if you don't believe
it,
notice how aircraft in Europe are designed to certain gross weights just
to
avoid the next level of airway fees!)
