I'm big on small government :-) and free markets, but Greg's right on this one. At least with today's technology, ATC is necessarily a monopoloy. It's not like I can call ATC-A for a clearance instead of ATC-B because ATC-A always gives me quicker and cheaper service. Also, take it from someone who works for government, if ATC is to be contracted-out, government can and will screw this up too. Why? Because the government will write the contract and, as always, it will be a one-size-fits-all affair. Wait until you get your bill for government contracted ATC service: $6,000 for 1 year's ATC service @ $500 per month flat fee for all the IFR services your VFR Coupe can use -- whether you want it or not.
