Sounds a little like a scare tactic to me...

Granted, if they are not correctly adjusted, they can cause problems, but,

they're simple to adjust, don't require frequent adjustments, and more 
reliable than the Continental key type starter.

Having said that, if I were faced with the prospect of spending more than
a 
couple hundred dollars (read clutch) on either a pull type or a
Continental 
key type starter, I'd definitely go for the B&C.  It's about a gazillion 
pounds lighter, for one thing, and it cranks better to boot.
