hello all. i just joined the group and am very happy to be here.

Welcome aboard, Steve!

 i have a
couple of questions. i am an aviation buff from years back. i grew up in
small aircraft since my father was a Marine Corp pilot. he flew a lot of
aircraft as you can imagine but he always loved the ercoupe the most
(well,
right after the F4U Corsair!).

Couldn't come up with two different kinds of planes, could he. The F4U
had to have persons walk along side because the pilot could not see
where he was going, while the Ercoupe has the best over-the-nose
view of just about anything.

i took a few flying lessons back in the early
80s. i have no idea where my log book is and even if i did i think it
would
be a good idea to start over anyway. i am 39 years old now.
here are my questions. is it possible to get your full private rating in
an
ercoupe? if not, can most of it be done in an ercoupe?

It is never too late to learn. Started myself `bout that age in a Cessna
150 that I had purchased. You can do quite a bit in the `coupe. It is
the flight test, where you must "demonstrate all the maneouvers for
the rating sought" that is a problem. Since the Ercoupe does not
do a full stall, you can't demonstrate it! However, the FAR's also
state that "either the examiner or the examinee may call off the
flight test at any time and the examinee will be given credit for
the completed parts" which means you could take most of the
text in the `coupe, then get a Cessna 150 for the stalls.

also, does anyone here have just the 'recreational pilot' rating?

You could very well do that. Most CFI's don't do Recreational
Pilot because the 5 hours less comes directly out of their
pocket! Get one that will work with you.

is the 'recreational' rating worth the $$$$?

It most certainly is IMHO. From there, you can get to the PPL by
log endorsements. You can also be endorsed for cross country,
night operations and flight into controlled air space. Go For It!

Where you at in SC? I was in Greenville for a while. Flew my
Cessna 150 out of the Muni there.
