Funny thing happened on my coupe too. I got tired of the mess of oil the breather drooled onto the inside cowl bottom. Every flight I'd wipe up a little goo from there so my mechanic suggested adding a piece of hose to the breather, maybe that'd clean things up. I could tell I was losing a few ounces of oil per flight via the breather overeflow before the hose addition and thought the extra length would just vent the oil to a less messy spot. What happened was actually the exact opposite. With the breather hose extension, to the end of the cowl opening under the firewall, even MORE oil got sucked away. After logging this activity for a few flights to verify, I unhooked the extra hose and tossed it away. I figure the extra length of hose just made even more suction for the oil breather tube and therefore more oil drained away in flight. Now I just wipe the brown goop up during my preflight and oil usage is back to a few ounces of overflow per flight. Any ideas from the group are welcome.
