It has come time for me to do some serious thinking about my C90 in the 
Forney. It has about 700 hours on it since the last overhaul, which is not
even shown in my logs.

The engine was apart about 15 years ago when I bought it because the
previous owner had a prop strike. At that time the crank was replaced, and

everything else checked out.

Now the cylinders are reading a bit low...two are around 60 with the
others
67-68. The engine does not get a lot of use and sits alot, but it runs
smoothly and has new slick mags, and does not burn a lot of oil. The
leakage
seems to be from the exhaust valves.

I am getting to the point where I think its time to have a look inside the

engine, and maybe pull the engine completely apart.

I should mention that I am one of those Canadian coupers who operate on 
owners maintenance, so I have a lot of options open to me.

My current plan is to have my mechanic take a hard look at the engine this

month, since my annual needs to be done. I have been thinking of doing a 
teardown and rebuild if necessary under the watchful eye of my mechanic.

I am not all that interested in having a full overhaul done, I am
interested
in a thorough condition check and repair and replace parts as necessary.

Just to eliminate spam I am a VERY careful person and am not foolish
enough
to think I can do this myself without a lot of help and advice. 

I was just wondering what others who have come to this stage of engine
life
have done and would welcome any advice.

Also....to add to the trim-quadrant debate that appeared earlier on the
list
as it applies to late model coupes and forney's. I replaced the entire
quadrant with vernier throttle and mixture controls. The trim was replaced
with the older model trim control on the left wall. I have never regretted
the
move. Once again, I am under owner-maintenance and have much more latitude
for mods, but I can't see why it would be difficult to get a 337 signoff
for
the trim change, since the type design was used in earlier models of the
same
airframe.
