John and Zack. We probably agree on more than we want to admit! This is
my last
pronouncement on the subject - we should take it off line.
I agree that it is up to everyone to keep an eye out at the airport. Some
things do
indeed not "look right." Even to my less-than-sterling vision.
I read once that police persons are really not that smart. They just know
when they
are being lied to. This is NOT ment to disparage those who honor us by
serving in
law enforcement. It is ment to point out that their senses are probably
better tuned
then "the rest of us." And they have the training to realize how far they
can/should
go before becoming "judge, jury and executioner." It is a responsibility
I
could not
discharge. I don't think the average Joe Ercouper can either.
The issue, to my mind, is not to get carried away. Yeah, they guy with
the
beard
and turbin may be up to no good. But I got a beard! Yes, grouping
persons by
probability of "up-to-no-goodness" is "racial profiling." But how'd such
groups get the reputation in the first place?
In summary, we should "watch our backsides." We should also go flying on
9/11
to assert that the terrorists don't rule.
