Hi Pete:     Greg answered the technical questions about the nose bowl. I
Think either will hold up OK if you use the baffles with the rubber flaps
and make sure that only the rubber touches any part of the cowling. The
old felt system did not lend itself to longevity. As I recall, the entire
cowling system was an afterthought. Fred designed one for the inverted 4
cylinder ERCO engine, and when Continental provided one for less money,
they switched engines and literally threw together a cowling which would
do the job. 
      Did you find anything which would resolve the squirrely take offs?
