Think again.

Somebody shooting off his mouth in front of the wrong FAA person can
cause a fellow pilot a great deal of grief even if that person is on the
straight and narrow. Simply by their getting the kind of attention they
don't want, and likely don't deserve.

I bet there aren't many airplanes out there where, if the FSDO demanded
to see the logs and compared them hard against the plane, there wouldn't
be at least one technical violation found. And the process itself can
cause
a great deal of needless grief and aggravation. Not to mention wasting
my tax dollars and yours. And just maybe my lawyer dollars and yours.

We had a guy who used to frequent our airport who was fond of standing
there
and pointing out FAR violations (real or imagined) and of shooting off his
mouth about how he should call their-numbers into the FSDO. He always
prefaced his remarks by pointing out that he was an experienced CFII, and
had been teaching for thus and so many years, yadda yadda yadda.

Eventually, he got 'invited' to find some other airports to hang out at
(we're a
private, public-use airport).

Good god, general aviation has enough pitfalls without some sea-lawyer
making you feel like you're under scrutiny every time you take a breath
or make a remark.
