 I have some insight on that since I was involved with
the bookkeeping for our flying club for about a year. 
I can tell you what I know if you're interested.

What I don't know is if rates are higher in CA that
elsewhere.  I've heard rumors to that effect, but I'm
not sure.  Since you're in OR, maybe it's better.
