Paul,

I'll share with you and the others how I found my Alon.

I started looking for a small two-seater plane back in January. Got a
ride
in a Coupe, and knew I didn't need to look at any other type of airplane.
Now, how to find one?

I'm in Northern California and when I looked at Trade-A-Plane, they always
had a few Coupes for sale, but they were always in Texas, or Arkansas, or
upstate New York. Not wanting to travel so far, I needed another method.

Now this does require some computer skills, but if you don't have them,
you
probably can find someone who does. I downloaded the FAA database for
aircraft registration as a text file, loaded it into MS Access database,
then filtered and sorted so I ended up with only Er/Aircoupe owners in N.
Calif. Then I wrote a letter in MS Word, used mailmerge, and sent that
letter to all those owners, about 100, saying if they had a nice Coupe,
would they consider selling.

I got 15-20 replies, some useful, some not. I screened as best I could
over
the telephone, and ended up visiting maybe half of the repliers. The Alon
I
bought was the last one I visited and I got a good plane, well-maintained
and improved by the previous owner, at a fair price.

Maybe this will work for you in your area.
