Hi All:

I thought I'd pass this on. I am in the process of performing
a major overhaul on a C-85 that has been fitted with the oil
filter STC. This engine still had the oil screen fitted.

Upon tear down #2 rod bearing was discovered to be very
close to spinning. It had already started to break up and small
pieces were missing.

Since this engine had a filter, the oil screen was NOT removed and
checked at each oil change. Therefore the screen stopped the metal from
reaching the filter. Cutting the filter open showed no metal!!!!

So the moral of the story is--if you have an oil filter installed, and
still
retain the screen, you must remove and check the screen at each and
every oil change to be safe.

Cheers:

Paul
