Bill,

Though I didn't do an extensive analysis, here's my quick analysis:

Artie just posts your stuff on his site. Programs like Google crawl the
ENTIRE World Wide Web and INDEX -->everything<-- they find.

If you post something that's visible on the WWW, it's entirely possible
that
a web crawler will have it indexed. That's the purpose and power and
value
of search engines.

I don't think this is anything Artie is doing nor anything he's doing
wrong.

Read the current Newsweek's article about Google and looked up my name
(hint-put quotes before first, middle initial (or name) and last ending
with
quotes again to narrow the search).

Now, I'm hardly a celebrity with four hits, but the third really caught my
eye:

So...followed the link to find

 http://bassace.com/ercoupe/thanks_for_stopping_by.htm

Scroll down near to the end for October 31, 2002 and you'll see what I
posted after visiting that site that day.

Now look over the invitation at the top of that page:

"We'd like to know what you think about our web site. Please leave your
comments in this public guest book so we can share your thoughts with
other
visitors."

Well, it's one thing to leave comments to a coupe enthusiast webmaster and
site visitors. It's quite another to find a compliment on a web site
routinely broadcast to the world without clear fair warning such that
thoughts are separated from proper context.

Instead of heading above web link "WE", why not "Killer 'Coupe site
visitor
comments" or the like? The information source seems hidden on purpose.

Scroll back to the bottom and hit "HOME" to find that this is Art
Langston's
Ercoupe Page. So enjoy the site...it's one of the best. Just be aware
that
anything you say will be in cyberspace for the rest of recorded human
history, for better or worse, associated specifically with your name!

And, I guess a logical question to Art would be why is he doing this?
What
possible legitimate purpose is being served here by such wide posting of
an
enthusiast's site visitor comments? Is he also selling visitor internet
addresses to spammers?

If such becomes "acceptable" (or even "normal") ethical behavior,
eventually
there won't be anywhere we dare identify ourselves by our given names
absent
compelling cause. And that's a darn shame and a real loss to humanity.

Regards,
