A cute story. I lined things up above so it's easier to see the
before-and-after.
Now let's continue the story.
The restaurant owner is getting $20 less for this group so now has to cut
back. He removes the good silverware and linen and doesn't replace it;
"bring your own from home." Portions are reduced. The efficient waitress
gets a wage freeze and, unhappy with that plus the fact she gets less in
the
tip, quits to work for a better place. She is replaced with an
indifferent
person who is slow, rude, and mixes up the orders.
Now the diners are really pissed. The people who didn't pay anything
before
have to bring their own knives, forks, spoons, and napkins, an additional
cost. Too damn bad, the others mutter, they were freeloading before
anyway.
But even the rich people are unhappy with the lousy service and reduced
amounts. They quit the group and head for another restaurant themselves
along with half the other patrons. The owner is unhappy because he can't
make the mortgage payment anymore and is running up a huge debt that he
decides to let his children pay. He is still has the lousy waitress to
deal
with. He can't fire her so tries contracting out, with disastrous
results:
he gets horrid service at twice the expense, though he notices that the
owners of the contracting service are all driving Mercedes and flying
Bonanzas while he can barely afford his little Aircoupe.
And that, fellow readers, is the "rest of the story."
