He's not referring to that use case. He's referring to providing storage services for the vm images.

Yes, gmc is deprecated. We are working with oVirt to provide GUI based gluster configuration capabilities. oVirt 3.1 which was recently released has some volume management features. If you give that a spin, we would love to hear your feedback :)
