When you started experiencing the problem of sent emails appearing in your inbox, had you at that time begun using the 'Send mail as' option for another email address with the 'Treat as an alias' setting? If so, there are some unexpected side effects of using this option/setting combination among which is that emails you send to that email address appear as unread in your inbox.
