My apologies for slow reply, justkenneth.

I do not use sending as another email option. Like most I wish to use an 
email service in the easiest way possible.

But I have discovered what my problem is. I use recent mode (which I hadn't 
stated) for I collect emails over two device (phone and PC).

Google explains in 
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=47948 how to set 
this up.

But one has to read 
http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=75947 under 
heading 'Why can't I download messages I send from my POP client?' to know 
something about duplicates. There Google say "*In order to avoid 
duplicates, Gmail doesn't download copies of messages sent from within your 
client. However, these messages will appear in the inbox of Gmail when you 
access your mail from the web*." Well, that latter sentence will mean we 
will collect 'a copy' when we again pull down our emails.

But what Google states in 'Why can't I download messages I send from my POP 
client?' isn't quite right either. I have discovered when I 'reply' to an 
email Google does copy it in their server's Inbox of my account. However, 
if I make a new email and send it then it appears in their server's 'sent 
items folder'. In any event both are downloaded into my client's (Outlook) 
Inbox and appear as duplicates of what I have sent.

All this must be confusing a hell of a lot of people!! An Outlook rule can 
'mangse' this but not in my phone. For me Google hasn't got this quite 
right yet.
