It's confusing but it is possible to register a non-Google email address as
a "Google account."  Or at least it used to be possible.  Considering how
well integrated Google products are with each other, it makes better sense
to just use the Gmail account that comes with a Google account, especially
since Google+ contacts are part of the same contacts that appear in Gmail.

So, Luis, you can export/import your Gmail contacts over to Yahoo, but your
Google+ contacts that you'd be making as you use that Google account would
be maintained separately from your Yahoo! email contacts.  By hanging onto
that Yahoo! account, you're losing the advantages of Google product
integration.
