If Google is telling you it "does not exist", then I think one of two
things is happening:

1. The name you tried is not allowed by Google, and you will not be able to
get that account name.

2. The name you tried formerly existed but the account was deleted.  Google
does not (as far as we know) recycle old usernames, so you will not be able
to get that account name again.  Well, maybe there is a small possibility
that you could convince Google that it was yours, and you just deleted it
by accident and you didn't mean to do that.  Since you don't seem to be
sure if that username was ever yours, it doesn't seem likely that you can
convince Google either.
