Aside from Gmail specifics (see below), I thought his logic looked correct.

However, I have never seen & or ! or * listed as acceptable operators in
Gmail.  I thought Gmail uses only the minus sign for negation, that it
doesn't require an AND operator (because it is implied), that Gmail has no
& operator, and that Gmail has no wildcards so a * doesn't work as you
might have expected it to.  Did (or when did) those things get added and
are they documented?
