Hi Bob The Gmail app has the features of full Gmail ie. it uses Labels, has the new inbox categories, stars etc. whereas the native Mail iPhone app is simply an IMAP client. I don't believe that Apple have implemented the IMAP IDLE support yet either, this means that new email is not pushed to the client and will only arrive at the specified polling interval. Of course, if you are a paid Apps user then you can connect using Exchange ActiveSync which will push emails to you (I get emails this way on my phone faster than Outlook). The Gmail app also has the ability to open other Google Apps directly from links in emails (eg. YouTube, Maps etc.)
I use both and keep switching between, haven't decided which is better yet. Best thing to do is try both so, yes, you can use them both concurrently.
