No, he said it didn't have an option to "add to dictionary" According to this page<http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-use-firefox-spell-checker>, Firefox absolutely has a spell checker, and it works exactly as you described. The GMail one requires you to click to check spelling, it doesn't do it automatically.
