I've asked before about the fact that sometimes I read an email on gmail on my phone; do NOT hit trash, but it disappers from my computer. I was sent a 'quick answer' that asks about IMAP or POP. Then says 1) search all messages; 2) check 'all mail' and trash' 3) check forwarding and POP/ IMAP settings.
