I don't know if this is the reason, but I found on previous desktops
that IMAP was very time-consuming on a slower computer with a whole lot of
saved Gmails - slower than POP. With a newer, faster computer that is
probably no longer the case, but it left a bad taste in my brain for
IMAP. wai pong Leung may have had a similar experience, or may be on a
slower computer now, for that matter.
    Just my .02 £ worth...
