As Andy says, you are permanently logged in. In my case this happens
because I am using Chrome and signed into that using the same Google
account.
If you enable 2-step verification, you will likely be signed out and have
to sign in again, so _do_ make sure your recovery information is up to date.
If you don't want it any more, you simply turn it off. BTW, I simply did a
Google search for 'google turn off 2 step verification' and the first
result was the help page.
