Give the latest automated snapshot a try: they contain the initial (beta) version of the new compound code. Warning: the workflow (and the syntax) for coumpounds has changed. Compounds are now simply meshing comstraints - they don't create new CAD entities anymore. See https://gitlab.onelab.info/gmsh/gmsh/blob/master/tutorial/t12.geo for an example.
