Dear Martin,
I donot have any idea about the goodness/shortcomings of the two compilers
however, what I have observed is that on the SGI system I could load the older
versions of gromacs like 3.01/3.2 with the MIPspro cc compilers I was
comfortably using gromacs till the latest version emerged, and all my other
softwares are working well so I never felt any need to switch over to
install/use gcc on SGI. I have gcc in my PC with Fedora core and gromacs 3.3
is installed there. Its working fine. My next attempt would be to load gcc on
SGI. Do you have any idea how much space does it occupy ? ( I am hard of Disk
space) . Pray for me.
regards
sharada

Soon is in 3-4 Years ;-)... but just for my interest. What are the advantages
of the MIPSpro compiler to gcc?
Cheers
