It might be pretty easy to add an option to gnash that would exec()
(or dynload) another flash interpreter very early in the plugin.  By
turning this option off and on, you could run gnash or run another
interpreter.  The browser itself would always invoke gnash, then gnash
would jump out into the other interpreter.
